London in 1998 is seeing the emergence of a new generation of stand-up comics. Danny operates a small, trendy club where, every evening, packed audiences come to discover new talent. Always on the lookout for future improvisation stars, Danny discovers Alex, a pretty young comedienne of the avant-garde theatre. He persuades her to join a comic duo, the “twins” Jay and Gus. Their impromptu satires are a great hit but their personal relationships aren’t as lucky. Both Jay and Gus chase after Alex who is living with a sculptor who is thoroughly obsessed with his art. Gus, who is already involved with a model, doesn’t see that Jay is jealous. The road to success is littered with personal casualties.
