Kathy is a 14-year-old girl who lives with her mother and her brother Danilo in a small Chilean coastal city. Her life is marked by the absence of her father, who is serving time in prison for several robberies; and by the permanent difficulties that she has to overcome day to day. In high school, Kathy meets Chemo, a handsome and sensitive boy, and they begin an intense relationship of mutual discovery. Meanwhile, Kathy’s family is falling apart, and she must face a sudden and growing loneliness. In this coming-of-age process, Kathy experiences the harsh routine of a girls’ reform school; the secrets her brother hides; first love and the first sexual encounter; the bittersweet taste of freedom and, in the hot port city nights, she becomes friends with a transvestite, Nina, who takes her on an unpleasant adventure. Nevertheless, Kathy is able to leave behind all the obstacles, and faces the future with a courage and an optimism that, in a certain way, are mixed with faith.
