Automatic

Three men, three cars, three obsessions: mysterious hints give way to concrete actions; within the sheltered space of glass, chrome and sheet metal, they sketch, meditate and take photographs. A study of restlessness set in a rural garage, a dusty black-and-white road movie, without tarmac and without roaring engines. A bizarrely witty residue amidst piles of tyres, leather seats and alloy wheels: eschewing narrative coherence, “automatic” draws on genres such as film noir and the Nouvelle Vague (Josef Dabernig / G.R.A.M.).
