Anselm (3D)

Edition 2023
93' - 2023 - Documentary - Dialogue: German, English, German, English
Director: Wim Wenders Composer: Leonard Küßner With: Anselm Kiefer, Daniel Kiefer, Anton Wenders

Wim Wenders delves into the life and work of Anselm Kiefer: a radical dissection of an extraordinary artist. In 3D, to do even better justice to Kiefer's art.

Anselm will be screened in 3D. You can buy 3D glasses when reserving your tickets.

Anselm Kiefer is one of the most important (and expensive) living artists. On his canvases, he mixes paint with other materials (glass, lead, ash, dried plants and more). Kiefer plays with texture, giving the paintings a third dimension. So it's not entirely surprising that Wim Wenders shot this documentary in 3D. Especially since Kiefer also creates imposing sculptures. His work, inspired by 20th-century German history, captures a gloomy atmosphere in a certain bleakness. Wenders was granted access to the 40-hectare estate near Nîmes where Kiefer owns several working spaces. The director dives into the 78-year-old artist's life and work in high-profile images. Although the two have long been close friends, Anselm is much more than a hagiography: a radical dissection of an extraordinary artistry.
Anselm is an elegant, sometimes visually extravagant attempt to evoke the imaginative world of Anselm Kiefer, widely considered a titan of contemporary art. The 3D camerawork is marvellous at conveying the textures, abrasive materiality and sheer scale of Kiefer’s often monumental creations.” - Screen Daily
