As in her first feature, La Femme de l'Hôtel, Swiss-Canadian director Léa Pool tackles deeply felt, intense female portraiture in Anne Trister. A visually sumptuous, slow-moving and deliberate work, the film teeters on the brink of dramatic stasis and psychological cliché. In the moments it finds its feet, the film is lovely.
