An Officer and a Gentleman

In An Officer and a Gentleman Richard Gere is a young man who, after having left a brothel quarter of Manila, joins the army hoping he can become a pilot. His youth has been pretty sad and in flash­backs we can see to what extent his father had perverted him. That makes him a difficult character, colliding more than once with his tough and cruel instructor, who humiliates him. But he makes friends with Sid Worley, for instance, a middle-class young man who's in the army to keep up with family traditions. During leave, they meet two girls, Paula and Lynette, both working in a factory near their military base.
