Miles lives with his girlfriend in a flat on the third floor of an old house. One night they find that there's no electricity in the house. Miles searches for the reason of the power failure and makes the gruesome discovery of his landlord's body lying electrocuted in his bath. Miles develops a morbid attraction to the flat, which lies empty for months. He rummages around, finds a box of the landlord's personal possessions and decides to take it. When a new tenant, a beautiful young woman, moves in, Miles attempts to introduce himself but is thwarted by chance on every occasion. One morning he picks up a letter of hers by accident.
