Mabe Fratti x 'Messiah of Evil'

Edition 2025 Videodroom Concerten
Film & Music
A film like a derailed LSD trip, now with a brand-new live soundtrack by Guatemalan avant-pop sensation Mabe Fratti. Abandon your expectations and dive headfirst into the malevolent world of Messiah of Evil.

About Messiah Of Evil
A young woman travels to a remote Californian coastal town in search of her missing father. What begins as a personal quest gradually unravels into a nightmare. Beneath the town’s seemingly mundane surface, a gruesome reality is simmering. (Think: obscure cults, an impending apocalypse, and hordes of the undead.)

Messiah of Evil is a sorely underrated, surreal horror film from 1974. Drenched in an eerie atmosphere and laced with psychedelic post-hippie vibes, it sketches a zombified America — not jolted awake after the death of the sixties, but instead drifting into a lethargic nightmare.

Zombies roam through supermarkets and cinemas that slowly morph into claustrophobic traps. Full of Lovecraftian overtones and strange dream logic, the film is a perfect cross between cult classics like Carnival of Souls and Night of the Living Dead.

About Mabe Fratti
Mexican cellist and vocalist Mabe Fratti selected this overlooked cult classic as the canvas for her unique blend of avant-pop, jazz, ambient, and shoegaze. With a classical background, an adventurous musical spirit, and a celestial voice, Fratti is without a doubt one of today’s most exciting artists — effortlessly bridging the worlds of experimental music and indie. She broke through in 2022 with the brilliant album Se Ve Desde Aquí, earning comparisons to icons like Kate Bush and Arthur Russell. In 2024, she was a guest curator at the prestigious Le Guess Who? festival. That same year, she released Sentir que no sabes, a stunning record.
