Honeyboys is a surreal VR experience exploring delivery culture, online consumption and the gig economy. You follow a naked courier descending deeper into a relentless system with no escape or free will. Inspired by lockdown-era China, it offers a confronting yet fascinating journey, enhanced by Spinvis’s striking soundscape.

Honeyboys takes you through an unbroken series of scenes centred on the world of delivery services, online consumption and the "gig economy" (no steady job, just piecework). The central figure is a naked delivery boy, descending ever deeper into the underbelly of consumer society. The idea arose when the makers – director Tibor De Jong and animator Doris Konings – heard about a Chinese city whose economy came to a complete standstill during the Covid lockdown, except for delivery drivers and livestreamers. The former delivered the products the latter promoted and sold. And so it went on. Honeyboys confronts you with the underside of the gig economy without offering any solution. As a viewer, you have no free will; instead, you're swept along in the whirlpool, so you feel what it's like to be trapped inside such a system. Confronting? Certainly. But fascinating too, with gorgeous sound design by Spinvis.
