Cinema crosses borders, builds bridges and explores unknown territory. Intergenerational film café GENERATIONS aims to bring the worlds of young and old closer together. First, young and old go to the film Christy together. Then the representatives of these two generations can get to know each other in the Film Fest Café. We break the ice with a drink, and leave the rest to them. What did the different generations think of the film? What links do they make? How do they relate to a particular theme? Generations in conversation.
Christy
Seventeen-year-old Christy has already lived through more than his share of turbulence. When his foster family finally throws him out, he moves in with his older half-brother Shane in Cork. But Shane, just getting to grips with new fatherhood, has little interest in housing a rebellious teenager and would just as soon send him away. Despite his bad reputation and even murkier past, Christy slowly begins to feel at home and to find new friends.
Christy marks the feature debut of Irish director Brendan Canty and expands on his acclaimed 2020 short film of the same name. With raw and heartfelt performances from a young cast, Canty crafts an authentic portrait of a tight-knit Cork community. The film won him the Grand Prix in one of the side sections of the Berlin Film Festival.
Generations On Tour is an initiative of La Luna (Sphinx Cinema) in collaboration with Film Fest Gent and the City of Ghent.
