As part of the 35th Gent Film Festival, renowned composer Gabriel Yared gives a seminar on film music at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent on the 16th of October. The seminar follows Yared's musical tribute to the late director Anthony Minghella a day earlier.
According to Yared, there is no distinction between film music and music as such: a composition is a composition. “Ultimately, I want my music to be real music that can be listened to even without the film”, he states. The relationship between director and composer is one of equals: both discover and create simultaneously. Hence, Yared stresses to follow each project right from the script phase.
