2:30 pm – Together for Dutch-Language Children's Film
Dutch-Flemish panel discussion on the importance of film education
Earlier this year, a group of Dutch filmmakers with a big heart for the youngest audiences founded the Jeugdalliantie (Youth Alliance), a think tank that aims to strengthen the position of Dutch productions for children and young people. These films once had a rock-solid reputation, but maintaining that level has proven difficult. Visibility is declining, international competition is growing, and financing is complex. By creating opportunities to meet, developing solutions and sharing advice (solicited or not), the alliance seeks to push youth productions higher up the agenda. One way to achieve this is through film education. Children and young people deserve to discover film as an art form. The Jeugdalliantie hopes to foster a generation that engages with media consciously and creatively, and that will embrace Dutch children's film even more.
Now, for the first time, the Jeugdalliantie is crossing the border to exchange experiences with its Flemish colleagues. What can they do for one another?
Panellists: Vincent Bal, director; Meikeminne Clinckspoor, director and screenwriter; Tijs van Marle, screenwriter; Iris Verhoeven, director of JEF
