On Thursday, 18 October 2022 Film Fest Gent will organise an inspiration day for teachers in collaboration with JEF. On this day, you will discover different ways and possibilities to utilise film in your classroom in order to enhance your students' media skills.
This year we will watch and talk about the short film Fien, Jip en Fien with director Marie De Hert. Following this talk, you will share a lunch with other teachers. Afterwards, teachers will participate in two of the following three sessions.
Images in Class: Talking about Themes and Short Films
Film can reflect the state of the world, just as it can make you reflect on yourself. This way, film enables conversations about various topics like racism and discrimination, sexuality and relationships, history and politics, etc. In this session, you will be introduced to the platform 'Les in beeld' and you will discover the power of short films.
Active Citizenship and Vlogging
How do your students view our contemporary society? How do they see the future? With the use of a camera and an excessive amount of creativity they can bring an inspiring message in their own creative way. In this session we will focus on attaining the SDG’s (de Duurzame Ontwikkelingsdoelstellingen) by transforming an engaging message into a vlog with impact. Additionally, you will learn to work with various apps so that you can make a vlog on your own!
Making Films
Film is an interesting medium to discuss and analyse, but imagine how many benefits this medium can offer if you actually integrate it in your lessons. When you use moving images, you offer students an extra method to grasp and memorise your lesson content. When students make films or videos, they transform the lesson content into a creative and personal project that enhances their comprehension, as well as their media skills. In this session, we will give you some practical tips and tools to make films on your own or with your students.
