As tradition dictates, the closing night of the 35th edition of Film Fest Gent is a festive celebration, featuring a concert and award ceremony that draws the attention of film music lovers from across the globe. This year, the World Soundtrack Academy proudly presents two exceptional guests: Oscar and Golden Globe winner Dario Marianelli, and Angelo Badalamenti, Composer of the Year 2005, who will receive this year's prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
Angelo Badalamenti will showcase his latest score for The Edge of Love during the World Soundtrack Awards Concert, performed by Brussels Philharmonic and conducted by Dirk Brossé. His haunting music is best typified by the dark and dreamy melodies of the cult hit television series Twin Peaks. Adding to this stellar line-up are Argentina’s foremost film composers, Daniel Tarrab and Andrés Goldstein, who return to the spotlight after receiving the World Soundtrack Discovery Award in 2007.
With powerhouses of these proportions, let’s not overlook our own Belgian talent. Tuur Florizoone will take center stage with his distinctive score for Aanrijding in Moscou, blending the warmth of his accordion with the orchestration of our renowned ensemble.
