Last year’s winner of the Film Composer and Discovery of the Year Awards, Jerskin Fendrix, will attend the 25th World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert on 15 October. Music from his acclaimed score for Poor Things will be performed live by Brussels Philharmonic under the baton of maestro Dirk Brossé.

Each year at the World Soundtrack Awards, Film Fest Gent and the WSAcademy invite the previous Discovery of the Year winner for a live performance of the music that earned them the award. On 15 October, composer and singer-songwriter Jerskin Fendrix will attend the 25th World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert, where his score for Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things (2023) will be performed symphonically by Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé.

Fendrix was born in the West Midlands region of England and graduated with a degree in classical music from the University of Cambridge. Before turning to film scoring, he was known for his work as a singer-songwriter and for his critically acclaimed ‘epunk’ album Winterreise. He made a remarkable film music debut, composing music for Poor Things and winning not only Discovery of the Year but also Film Composer of the Year - an unprecedented double honour in WSA history. Besides the two WSAwards, his score for Poor Things received Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations, and won the Georges Delerue Award for Best Soundtrack/Sound Design at Film Fest Gent's 50th edition.

His bold, offbeat, playful, and somewhat quirky sound proved a perfect fit for Yorgos Lanthimos, with whom he has since collaborated on Kinds of Kindness (2024) and Bugonia (2025). On 10 October, Fendrix will release his new solo album Once Upon a Time... in Shropshire, a collection of ten folk songs about life and death in the countryside. The opening track, Beth's Farm, has already been released with a six-minute music video directed by Lanthimos and starring Emma Stone, further extending their artistic collaboration.

Previously, the festival announced that the British film and television music icon Debbie Wiseman and A.R. Rahman, widely regarded as India’s greatest living composer, will attend the WSA Ceremony & Concert as esteemed guests of honour. Both will be celebrated with live performances of their music at Music Centre De Bijloke, offering audiences a rare chance to hear their work in concert. Furthermore, the evening will of course also see the presentation of all 2025 World Soundtrack Award nominees. The first wave of this year's WSA nominees was announced last week.
