Film Fest Gent releases new titles and its poster image of the 45th edition
Besides the opening film ‘Girl’ by Lukas Dhont, the Galas & Specials section contains several longawaited feature films. The Berlusconi-biopic ‘Loro’ by Paolo Sorrentino and the ‘The Sisters Borthers’ by Jaqcues Audiard, with an A-list cast consisting of Jake Gyllenhaal, Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly, will both have their Benelux premiere at Film Fest Gent.
Indie-director David Lowery (‘A Ghost Story’) sticks to what he knows and chose Casey Affleck to star in ‘The Old Man and the Gun’, alongside Robert Redford, who supposedly will complete his acting career with this film. Director Christian Petzold ensures us of why he belongs to the new wave of German filmmakers with ‘Transit’ and ‘Coureur’ by ex-cyclist Kenneth Mercken will have its world premiere during the closing night of Explore Zone, the youth competition of the festival.
The section Global Cinema, zooming in on contemporary art house cinema, consists of Un Certain Regard winner Ali Abassa with ‘Gräns’ and ‘Nome di donna’, the latest film by Marco Tullio Giordana (‘La Meglio Gioventù).’ To top this list of, Stephan Elliott’s ‘Flammable Children’ and the haunting tribute to Hitchcocks’ ‘Vertigo’, ‘The Green Fog’ will be screened at the festival.
As every edition the festival focuses on a specific country, the 45th edition will highlight Hungary. That’s why Dorota Segda, leading lady of ‘My Twentieth Century’, is the face of the festival this year. The Hungarian feature is the debut film by Golden Bear-winner ‘On Body and Soul’ director Ildikó Enyedi. During the course of the festival several Hungarian films will be screened, recent productions and classics, with a tribute to one of the greatest directors in film history: Miklós Jancsó.
The international competition of the festival will be announced alongside the entire programme during the press conference on 20 September in Gent. The 45th Film Fest Gent takes place from 9 until 19 October in Kinepolis Ghent, Studio Skoop, Sphinx, Vooruit, KASKcinema and Capitole Ghent
