21:15 | Open-air screening - The Old Oak

In The Old Oak, British director Ken Loach delivers a moving and deeply human story set in a former mining village in the North of England. The Old Oak is the name of the last remaining pub in a once-thriving community, now struggling with poverty, unemployment and growing tensions. When a group of Syrian refugees arrives in the village, suspicion and hostility divide the locals.

Pub owner TJ Ballantyne tries to keep his establishment and the fragile sense of community it represents alive. Against a backdrop of hardship and resentment, unexpected friendships begin to form, revealing how solidarity and shared meals can bridge even the deepest divides. With compassion and quiet determination, Loach paints a powerful portrait of dignity, resistance and hope in times of change.

“It's not where you're from. It's what you bring.”

Dzjambo

Dzjambo is an intercultural meet-up group where non-Dutch-speaking and Dutch-speaking residents of Ghent come together. Every last Friday evening of the month, they organize a Dzjambo café at Herberg Macharius. There, they present the activities for the coming month, chat with each other in small groups in a relaxed atmosphere and listen to live music. And by the end of the evening, things sometimes turn into a party.
