The subject of the film is based on a real incident which took place in the seventies, during the military dictatorship in Greece. In those days, it was a common occurrence for outstanding persons to be arrested and forced to give evidence at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg to the effect that human rights were not violated in Greece. The film begins with the arrest of a professor at the National Centre of Scientific Research in Athens. The film then moves to Trieste, where Kyvell, the professor's wife, seeks out Klaus Offenbach, a former pupil of her husband's, who is known to be involved in anti-dictatorial activities in Europe.
