In turn-of-the-century Russia, as the country was on the brink of revolution, Rasputin changed the course of history. This self-proclaimed holy man, commonly known as "the mad monk of
Russia" became the country's invisible ruler as a 300-year-old ruling dynasty collided head-on
with new political ideas. Rasputin, however, was neither mad nor a monk; the limits of his
influence were largely unknown. What is known, is that he became a member of Czsar Nicho
las II's inner circle, when his legendary healing powers offered hope to the heir son, Alexei
who suffered from hemophilia. Rasputin's ability to provide relief to Alexei bound him to the
Romanovs - a tragic alliance that would soon topple an empire and lead the world into a new
age.
