Shot entirely in Morocco and Marrakech, Jacques Doillon's new film is another of his powerful studies of adolescence. Raja, a young Moroccan woman, lives life on the streets where she's hassles by her brother and lover who are on the look out for any money they can make. She works for Frederic, a foreigner who lives in a swank house among the palm trees. He falls for her, she's attracted to him. She's also attracted to the things he owns, the dream of another life. She doesn't speak Arabic. He's cultivated, she's from the streets. He desires her, she seeks him out. Their backgrounds mean they're worlds apart. Can their desire bring them together?
