285' - 1988 - Drama, Biography - Dialogue: German
Director: Fritz Lehner Composer: Franz Schubert With: Udo Samel, Daniel Olbrychski
After having left hospital, in this Vienna pulsing with life of the early 19th Century, a young man, Franz Schubert, is seized by a strong feeling of having been abandoned to his fate. He is incurably ill and tries to regain his taste for life. But all his nearest and dearest seem to keep their distance from him. His unsavoury companion in misfortune from hospital, a disabled victim of the Napoleontic War, follows him obstinately in the streets of Vienna. Franz meets his friend Schober who takes him to mutual friends as in bygone days. But nothing is as it used to be, neither friendship, nor celebration ... Distrust rises gradually.
Only Schober, a very sensitive man, will restore Franz Schubert 's courage to live by sealing a moving and irremediable pact of friendship.
