Brian Eno once said: The Velvet Underground did not sell many records, but everyone who bought one started a band. And indeed David Bowie, Patti Smith, Talking Heads, U2, REM and Sonic Youth - to name but a few - all freely admit that they have been influenced by the music produced by this group. This film portrays the man behind The Velvet Underground, a man who was to become a living legend - Lou Reed. Musician, lyricist and composer, Reed formed The Velvet Underground in 1965 together with John Cale, Sterling Morrison and Maureen Tucker, the world's first female rock’n’roll drummer. In 1972 Lou Reed embarked upon a solo career which included non-commercial experimental work but also some very successful songs such as “Walk on the Wild Side”.
