Patrice Leconte's Le Parfum D'Yvonne, an adaptation of Villa Triste by the reputedly unfilmable author Patrick Modiano, is a visual feast. The film is set in 1958 in an Alpine resort. Victor Chmara, a serious young man, meets the refreshingly beautiful Yvonne. Her entourage includes a huge dog and a debonair ageing homosexual playboy, Rene Meinthe. The chaperones do nothing to cool the white-hot eroticism that builds between Yvonne and Victor and the pair are encouraged to marry.
