Kracht (Vigour)

Vigour centers on Roos, a frustrated artist who is unable to choose between an urban and a rural lifestyle. After meeting a recently widowed farmer at a fair, she makes her choice. She moves in with him and his son and attempts to take the place of his dead wife. She discovers, however, that her new life and relationship mark the beginnings of frightening problems. The idea for her film came to Fokkema after years of peripatetic country life, and it is also a kind of personal exorcism, marking the final chapter of her own country days. (Moving Pictures 20.9.90)
