Jim Jarmusch is back, though he never really left, with Golden Lion winner Father Mother Sister Brother. Much like in Night on Earth and Coffee and Cigarettes, the iconic filmmaker loosely weaves together several tales: one about a father in the U.S., a mother in France, and twins in Ireland. Each explores the fraught relationships between distant parents and their adult children. Told in Jarmusch’s trademark unhurried style, the film is laced with playfulness, dry humor, effortless cool, and surprising tenderness. Everyday absurdities unfold through awkward exchanges, uncomfortable silences, and, of course, impeccable musical choices. This offbeat dramedy marks his third collaboration with Adam Driver after Paterson (FFG2016) and The Dead Don’t Die (FFG2019), with Tom Waits and Cate Blanchett also returning. Jarmusch himself calls it "a kind of anti-action film." In short: vintage Jarmusch.
