Superbly scripted and directed, Cronos is an imaginative and inventive reworking of a genre deeply rooted in Mexican film culture: the vampire movie. The story concerns the Cronos device, an object that has the power to bestow eternal life. The device was built by a 16th-century alchemist. It resurfaces in contemporary Mexico in the junk shop owned by an elderly man, Jesus Gris, who is immediately attracted by the idea of immortality.
