Set in Jerusalem 2000 years ago, this film (based on the novel by Pär Lagerkvist) tells the story of Barabbas, thief and murderer, who was released from prison by the will of the people and replaced, in jail and on the Cros by Jesus Christ. Barabbas' conscience plagues him. In a struggling, almost bovine manner he tries to find the truth about the new wave of faith that is sweeping the country. Anthony Quinn is firstclass in his role of Barabbas.
