A young man leaves his work in Abidjan, capital of the Ivory Coast. He dreams of becoming a successful singer. He finds a place to stay with a young woman from the same village who earns a living as a prostitute on the streets of Abidjan. The couple has a row and he leaves her, but it is her help which enables him to realise his dream. When he later decides to return and make his peace with her, he discovers that she has died of AIDS, like so many African woman in similar circumstances. The song he writes for her in his grief becomes a requiem for all that is lost in today's Africa.
