Iron Boy (7+) (Le Corset)

Eleven-year-old Christophe is bored stiff on his strict father’s farm. Suddenly, he starts falling over for no apparent reason, everywhere and all the time. The solution? An orthopaedic corset. Whilst his older brother works himself to the bone on the farm, Christophe discovers a new passion: the church organ. The solo debut of animator and Pixar veteran Louis Clichy, who still wears a corset to this day, is an expressive and personal work of art. Watercolour, Chinese ink, spontaneous sketches and a dash of classical music bring the French countryside of the 1980s to life, where the harsh economic reality of farm life clashes with Christophe’s imagination and thirst for freedom. The heart-warming Iron Boy hovers somewhere between nostalgia, memory and imagination, and shows that turning the world upside down isn’t such a crazy idea after all. A captivating watercolour film that won a jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival. At the recent international animation film festival in Annecy, Iron Boy furthermore received both the jury prize and the audience award.
