The 53rd Film Fest Gent is scheduled 7-18 October 2026. You can now present your film for the program. The deadline for entering your film will be 1 July 2026.

Submit your film

Film Fest Gent is a competitive festival, focusing on "The Impact of Music on Film" at which some 12 to 15 feature films compete for two prizes. The competing films are viewed by an international jury, which will pick out two films for following prizes:

* The Grand Prix for the Best Film
* The George Delerue Award for Best Music (Best Application of Music or sound design)

As to shorts we have a competition for international shorts (max. 30 minutes); and one for Belgian student shorts. We also present a program of non-competing international shorts, for this section no restrictions as to production year or length are set.

We will expect to present the film in (at least) it's Belgian première.

Submit your Belgian Student Short

Film Fest Gent organises a competition for final works from Belgian film schools. The aim is to underline the importance of the short film and encourage young filmmakers. A jury composed by the festival awards one film as Best Belgian Student Short. The audience will have the opportunity to award one of the films with the Audience Award.

Films produced at one of the recognised Belgian film schools (full-time courses such as at KASK, Sint-Lukas, RITCS, Narafi, Luca C-mine, IAD, INSAS and La Cambre) between 1/9/2025 and 04/9/2026 are eligible for the competition for Belgian student shorts. The selection of the shorts is in the hands of the executive committee of the festival and will be made only after vision of the film by at least one member of the committee. Please read the rules for the Belgian Student Short Competition before submitting.

The deadline for Belgian Student Shorts (all films made at one of the official Belgian film schools) is Friday 17:00 CET, 4 September. Send your request to eindwerken@filmfestival.be and if eligible, you will be forwarded the official form. No entry fee needed for these student applications.
