When the passionate botanist Laura vanishes without a trace, her boyfriend and colleague set out on a search through the Argentine pampas. But every clue leads to a new mystery. Chapter by chapter, filmmaker Laura Citarella unfolds her story as a cinematic narrative puzzle in which each new perspective undermines the previous one. What begins as a detective story about a missing woman branches out into secret love letters, a rare flower and a monster in a lake. Citarella, a key figure in the idiosyncratic collective El Pampero Cine, constructs a universe in which Jorge Luis Borges wanders into an Argentine version of Twin Peaks. Following screenings at Venice and Film Fest Gent (FFG22), Trenque Lauquen went on to become one of the most acclaimed films of that year: Cahiers du Cinéma even crowned Citarella’s four-hour epic the best film of 2023.
There will be an intermission during the screening.
