Architect Miguel (Javier Bardem) is commissioned to design a luxurious shelter for a select group of the ultra-rich, a modern pyramid for a new pharaoh. Paul Dano is fantastic as the terrifying billionaire, a paranoid, out-of-touch creep clearly modelled on tech moguls like Zuckerberg and Musk. But that paranoia also seeps into Miguel and Sofia’s (Penélope Cruz) marriage. After seventeen years together, their relationship becomes a mirror of the world they live in: a world in which we increasingly trust no one.
