Hildur Guðnadóttir and Nicholas Britell, respectively Film Composer and TV Composer of the Year, win again at the World Soundtrack Awards. Gagarine, the feature debut of Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh, wins the Explore Zone Award 2020. The French directing duo were in Ghent last week to present their debut. The Explore Zone Award, presented to them by the Explore Zone youth jury, gives them a promotional boost thanks to a media campaign in De Morgen, Knack Focus and at Studio Brussel worth 27,000 euros.

'Tussen de bijen en de tarbot', the poetic animated short by Linnea Lidegran Correia (KASK) received the Award for Best Belgian Student Short at the closing evening of the short film weekend at Film Fest Ghent. The winner of the ACE Image Factory & The Fridge Audience Award for Best Belgian Short is 'Versailles' by Hyun Lories. 'Perpetual Night' by Pedro Peralta won the Best International Short Award.
Viggo Mortensen received the Joseph Plateau Honorary Award 2020 in Ghent on Sunday 18 October. No traditional opening reception, but lots of liquor and above all a lot of cinephile entertainment. That is how the opening night of Film Fest Ghent on Tuesday 13 October can be summarized. With Thomas Vinterberg's opening film Drunk, Belgium's biggest film festival has got off to a flying start. In a safe and corona-proof setting, 110 feature films and 32 short films will be screened on the wide-screen over the next ten days. There are also VIDEODROOM concerts at Kunstencentrum Vooruit and the festival will close with a special anniversary edition of the 20th World Soundtrack Awards, on Saturday 24 October.
Film Fest Ghent will reach further then ever by launching a brandnew online VOD platform. During the festival period, film fans, based in Belgium, can watch and experience 60 full-length films - about half of the entire FFG2020 offer - at home too. These films are also supplemented with pre-recorded Q&As with filmmakers and actors who are unable to come to Ghent due to Covid-19.

Seven young filmmakers from recognized Belgian film schools will present their graduation project during the Competition for Belgian Student Shorts at the 47th edition of Film Fest Ghent. Here, they have a chance at winning the Prize for Best Belgian Student Short Film - awarded by a professional jury - thanks to Amplo and the ACE Image Factory & The Fridge Audience Award, respectively with a value of 5,000 and 6,500 euro that can be used as a budget for post-production in an upcoming project.
