Let's make a record!
One of the several film music related intitiatives Film Fest Gent undertakes or supports is the annual recording and release of a compilation album full of soundtracks from one particular composer. This goes together with a crowdfunding campaign to cover the production costs.
Film Fest Gent is eager to put film composers in the spotlights during the World Soundtrack Awards, but we also want to spread their music for film in other ways. With that in mind, we annually organise the crowdfunding and production of a unique compilation album of one particular film composer. Over the years, we have recorded soundtracks by Gabriel Yared, Angelo Badalamenti, Alan Silvestri and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Since 2015, a crowdfunding campaign is held to cover the production costs of the album.
This year, the jazzy film scores of Terence Blanchard have been bundled. He is one of the most productive and successful jazz composers in the film industry of the past 20 years, so he definitely deserves a spot on this list, especially in this celebration year for jazz.
The best of his soundtracks have been recorded by Brussesl Philharmonic & jazz soloists Carlo Nardozza, Inti De Maet, Thomas Fiorini, Bart Van Caenegem, Nathan Daems, and Matthias De Waele, conducted by Maestro Dirk Brossé, and released on a unique compilation album. To cover the costs, we’ve set up a crowdfunding campaign, which you can find here. Our goal is to collect €10.000 which serves to pay for the production costs. The higher the amount, the more extra’s we can provide on the cd, e.g. more songs, different instruments or just extra soloists.
You won’t be left empty-handed if you make a contribution, as there are a lot of advantages if you support our crowdfunding. You can count on a signed copy of the album sent to your house, a meet & greet with Terence Blanchard, attendance during the recording sessions and so much more, depending on the sum you contributed. All advantages are explained on the website of Indiegogo.
