First titles of FFG2021 revealed!

We reveal the first titles of the 48th edition. Homegrown talent will be represented by Laura Wandel with playground drama Un monde, and Vincent Meessen with Juste un mouvement. A hint of national pride can also be found in Annette, as Leos Carax' musical was filmed partly in Belgium. The Golden Bear will also be attending: the somewhat controversial Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn by Radu Jude. In the short film selection will Film Fest Gent shine the spotlight on Greek director Jacqueline Lentzou, whose feature film debut, Moon, 66 Questions, will also be screened. And lastly, Andrea Arnold's Cow will also be shown at Film Fest Ghent.

Belgian film La Civil to open Film Fest Ghent

La Civil, the fiction debut of the Belgian-Romanian filmmaker Teodora Ana Mihai, is the official opening film of the 48th edition of Film Fest Ghent! The gripping drama about a Mexican mother whose daughter is abducted by a drug cartel had its world premiere at the Cannes film festival, where it won the Prix du Courage. The film is a compelling, fictionalised portrait of an everyday reality in Mexico, and gives a voice to the countless parents who experienced these hardships.

Film Fest Ghent and Arts Centre Voo?uit are collaborating for the fourth time to present a series of exclusive nights that brings live music and film together. The programme features Steve Gunn playing a live score to a series of films by Stan Brakhage, a multi-sensory performance by KRANKk and Platform-K, a live presentation of Belgian artist Robbing Millions' second album and more!

Focus on Greek cinema

The 48th edition of Film Fest Ghent will explore Greek cinema. The poster features Efthymis Filippou, renowned Greek screenwriter and frequent co-writer of Yorgos Lanthimos. After a physical, yet restrained edition in 2020, the festival will strive again for a physical collective film experience in the autumn, paying attention to any possible corona measures in place at that moment.

World Soundtrack Awards 2021 will honour Eleni Karaindrou

The World Soundtrack Awards step into their third decade celebrating the art of film music by honouring Greek composer Eleni Karaindrou. Best known for her close collaboration with director Theo Angelopoulos, she will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Soundtrack Academy. The World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert will be held on 23 October 2021 as the traditional closing event of Film Fest Ghent (12 – 23 October 2021).

Max Richter is guest of honour at WSA2021

Exciting news! Composer Max Richter will be the guest of honour at the World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert. The composer of Mary Queen of Scots, HBO's The Leftovers, Waltz with Bashir, BBC's Taboo, the hit series My Brilliant Friend and almost a dozen solo albums is coming to Ghent and will be working on a special WSA concert programme with Brussels Philharmonic and Dirk Brossé.

Concert Great Greek Composers pays homage to Greek film music

The 48th Film Fest Ghent welcomes back the annual film music concert after a year without live concerts. On Friday 22 October 2021, Film Fest Ghent presents in Opera Ghent the concert Great Greek Composers with film music by - among others - Eleni Karaindrou, Mikis Theodorakis and Evanthia Reboutsika.
