Director's Talk: Céline Sciamma
On Wednesday 12 October, Céline Sciamma will attend Film Fest Gent for a Director's Talk with Lukas Dhont, the director of Close, the opening film of the festival. For the talk, Film Fest Gent will screen Sciamma's most recent film, Petite maman. In addition, the French director will receive the Joseph Plateau Honorary Award.

FFG2022: Focus on South Korean cinema
The 49th edition of Film Fest Ghent will have a Focus on South Korean Cinema. For the very first time, a film composer is front and centre of the festival's poster: Jung Jae-il, known for his scores for Parasite and Squid Game. The film programme will include both new Korean features and a unique retrospective of 21st-century Korean cinema.

Close by Lukas Dhont opens FFG2022
Close by Ghent-born director Lukas Dhont will open the 49th edition of Film Fest Ghent on 11 October. With his heartbreaking sophomore film, Dhont won the Grand Prix at Cannes Film Festival. Close is a profoundly felt film about the friendship between two boys and the devastating disruption which drives them apart. After Girl in 2018, it's the second time Lukas Dhont opens the film festival.

Mark Isham is guest of honour WSA2022
Film Fest Ghent welcomes the versatile American film composer and jazz artist Mark Isham as guest of honour of the 22nd edition of the World Soundtrack Awards which will take place in the Concert Hall of Muziekcentrum De Bijloke on 22 October. Isham is known for memorables scores such as those for Crash (Paul Haggis, 2004), The Black Dahlia (Brian De Palma, 2006), Warrior (Gavin O'Conner, 2011) and Judas and the Black Messiah (Shaka King, 2021). His music for Robert Redfords A River Runs Through It (1992) received an Oscar nomination. The Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by Dirk Brossé, will play a selection of his works and of Nainita Desai, winner of the 2021 WS Discovery of the Year Award, who will return to Ghent.

Film music concert Korean Composers
No Film Fest Ghent without a spectacular film music concert. This year, we make a musical trip to South Korea during the concert Korean Composers. Brussels Philharmonic will perform music by composers Cho Young-wuk (Oldboy, The Handmaiden), Jung Jae-il (Parasite, Squid Game) & others.
