In the presence of: Geraldine Chaplin, Titus De Voogdt, Lucie Debay, Peter Van den Begin, Peter Brosens, Jessica Woodworth, Bruno Georis
In 2016 Jessica Woodworth and Peter Brosens collaborated on the unexpected mockumentary 'King of the Belgians', that recounted the tale of the fictional Belgian kind Nicolaas III, whose country breaks apart in his absence - while the king is away on a state visit to Turkey, Wallonia declares its independence. The absurd story of the king on the road, desperately trying to get home, was largely overlooked in Belgium itself, but internationally applauded. The directing-duo now returns with the equally enjoyable sequel to 'The King of the Belgians': 'The Barefoot Emperor'. The second film on Nicolaas III pushes the boundaries between satire and reality even further. The king somehow finds himself responsible for keeping the pieces of a collapsing Europe singlehandedly together. Can he -or can the film- reunite a disconnected continent?
