By the end of the 1960s, Pauline Kael had gotten a reputation for being America's most fearsome film critic. Jerry Lewis claims she never said anything good about him, and director David Lean was so traumatized by her critique on 'Ryan's Daughter' he stopped directing for fourteen years. Even her biggest opponents have to admit that Kael's radical vision was based on a true gift for reading films. This documentary lets both fans and enemies speak.
