Algerian director Mounia Meddour reminds the viewer of the brutality of the Algerian civil war of the 1990s in this feature film. 18-year-old Nedjima dreams of a career in fashion and has launched her career by selling her sexy clothing to 'papichas', pretty young Algerian girls, in night club toilets. Her life as an independent woman is threatened, however, by religious fundamentalists who demand women to cover themselves up before leaving the house, or else... Undeterred, Nedjima wants to emphasize her femininity and organizes a fashion show out of protest. This ode to freedom underscores that boldness can still reign in times of repression.
