Adapted from a story by William Irish, it's a noirish tale of a man who buys a mail-order bride but receives a con woman instead. After they get married, she flees with his money. Madly in love, he follows her. Ty Burr, from the Boston Globe, described it as "a film noir shot in dazzling color, a Hitchcock movie with the soul of a Jean Renoir drama". Preceded by the international première of the short film 'Los 4 golpes' by François Truffaut.
