While 'Uncertain Glory' takes place during the Civil War, the war itself is largely absent. But its shadow falls over the four main characters, present in every decision they make and every action taken. Lluis, a Republican soldier, is momentarily taken away from the action at the front of Aragon. While his wife and child live through bombing after bombing in Barcelona, the father falls for an older femme fatale, Carlana. He's also reunited with his old university pal, Juli, who secretly has an eye on Lluis' wife. The characters (re)position themselves in a war that marks them, which they occasionally abuse.
