Film Fest Gent proudly welcomes Cliff Martinez, American composer and former drummer of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, to the traditional film music concert during the second part of the World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert.

In line with tradition, the 41st edition of Film Fest Gent will end with a festive event, the World Soundtrack Awards Concert, the annual film music event that has now reached its 14th edition and that gives the festival its international allure. This year's guest of honour is Cliff Martinez, American film music composer and former drummer of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers. The WSA concert will mainly focus on his long-time collaboration with Steven Soderbergh, for whom he is the long- standing composer (Sex, Lies and Videotape, Traffic, Kafka, Contagion, The Limey and Solaris). Needless to say, the programme also includes his two cult scores for Drive and Only God Forgives (both starring Ryan Gosling) by Nicolas Winding Refn, as well as the music he wrote for Spring Breakers by Harmony Korine.

Don't miss this event to see and hear the man who once played his drums for 72 hours straight, and who now continues to push the boundaries of film music with his elegant and atmospheric mix of meditative melodies, orchestral elements, electro sounds, guitar samples and techno club music.

The WSA also welcomes Dan Romer, who was crowned Discovery of 2013. The former frontman and acoustic guitar player of indie pop-rock band Fire Flies earned this title for his moving score for Beasts of the Southern Wild, the motion picture that earned director Benh Zeitlin the Grand Jury Prize at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, the Caméra d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the Explorezone Youth Jury Award at Film Fest Gent.

Following the 41st Film Fest Gent's focus on France, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to French composer Francis Lai at the 14th World Soundtrack Awards. Francis Lai (born in 1932 in Nice) became world famous with A man and a woman (1966), his first score for a film by Claude Lelouch, for whom he would compose over thirty scores the next four decades.

During the WSA concert, Francis Lai will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding career in film music. A selection of his work will be performed by the Brussels Philharmonic and conducted by Dirk Brossé.

In addition to the oeuvre of Lai, Jeff Neve's captivating music for the prestigious Flemish drama series In Flanders Fields will also be getting some deserved attention that evening. With this score, Jef Neve proved that he is not only a gifted jazz musician but also a very inspired composer of many talents. He will be performing a selection of the music he wrote, accompanied by footage from the series.
