'Blanco en Blanco' (White on White) is a strong portrayal of an artist's obsessive quest to capture beauty through a camera lens. Mr. Porter, a rich landowning local of Tierra del Fuego insistently calls photographer Pedro (Alfredo Castro) to his island. Upon his arrival, he is greeted by a blanket of snow and Porter's bride, a girl many years Porter's minor, and is requested to photograph her. After weeks on the island, Porter has still not made an appearance and Pedro becomes entranced by Porter's fiancée as he continues to search for the perfect way to lay bare her soul on camera. When Pedro's increasing infatuation is discovered by acquaintances of Porter's, he is made to pay for his actions. He is forbidden from framing the human body in its voluptuous flesh, and instead is sent to document the darkest chapter in Tierra del Fuego's history: the mass-murder of the island's indigenous Selk'nam population during the late nineteenth century. Armed with his camera, the photographer becomes an involuntary contributor to the aestheticized remembrance of colonial barbarism.
