A professor (Jacques Doniol-Valcroze) falls in love with a woman he meets in Istanbul (Françoise Brion) but from the beginning it's clear she is not what she seems. Alain Robbe-Grillet was along with Nathalie Sarraute, Michel Butor and Claude Simon one of the figures most associated with the trend of the Nouveau Roman.
