Film Fest Gent - Far From The Madding Crowd

John Schlesinger's adaptation of Thomas Hardy's novel is much longer, slower- paced and majestic than Thomas Vinterberg's recent version. Julie Christie has been cleverly cast as the emancipated heroine who inherited her father's farm in 1874. Peter Finch, Alan Bates (whose role is played by Matthias Schoenaerts in the new version) and Terence Stamp are the three men in her life.
