The 16th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards celebrates music composed for the most outstanding television shows. This year, the event is split up into two different programmes: the World Soundtrack Awards Gala on Wednesday 19 October, and the WSA Concert on Thursday 20 October. Both events take place at the prestigious venue Capitole Gent. During the Gala, a new award will be introduced: Best TV Composer of the Year.

Next to that, the following awards will be given as well:

  • Sabam Award for the Most Original Composition by a Young International Composer
  • WSAward for Best Original Score for a Belgian Production
  • WSAward for Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film

  • WS Public Choice Award
  • WSAward for Film Composer of the Year
  • WS Lifetime Achievement Award: Ryuichi Sakamoto

Big names from the film and TV music scene will be present as Brussels Philharmonic and the Flemish Radio Choir conducted by Dirk Brossé perform their scores:

  • 'The White Queen' by John Lunn
  • 'Roots' by Alex Heffes
  • 'Upstairs Downstairs' by Daniel Pemberton
  • 'Fargo' by Jeff Russo
  • 'House of Cards' by Jeff Beal
  • 'Homeland' by Sean Callery

Our guest of honour is Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. His scores for Nagisa Ôshima's 'Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence', Bernardo Bertolucci's 'The Last Emperor', Brian De Palma's 'Femme Fatale' will be performed live in his presence.

The next day, 20 October, the WSA Concert reprises the complete concert (minus the ceremony) and thrilling tunes from legendary TV series as 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.', 'Star Trek', 'Mission Impossible', 'Dynasty' and 'Twin Peaks' will be added.
